A turning point for pig farmers in Kikuyu

Feeding challenges once held my pig farm back, with poor growth and losses. Discovering De Heus turned things around, helping my pigs thrive and my farm succeed.

As pig farmers, many of us have faced serious challenges in rearing healthy pigs and achieving good results. From my own experience, feeding has always been one of the biggest struggles. I, Mercy Wangeci, reached a point where I could no longer remember the last time a six‑month‑old pig on my farm weighed 90 kilograms. Poor feeding practices affected my entire operation.

Before learning about De Heus, I went through difficult moments. At one time, I had ten gilts served at the same time, and due to poor feeding, I ended up losing around 150 piglets. That loss pushed me to search for a better solution and rethink everything about how I managed my farm.

Discovering De Heus changed the direction of my farm completely. With this product and its varieties, I have been able to save a lot and improve the performance of my pigs. Things have turned around, and as farmers, we finally have something to celebrate because we have seen the light.

From the smallest piglets, the difference is clear. The creep feed smells so good that the piglets run to it on their own, and the nurse meal supports them as they grow. I once lost a sow that had farrowed 20 piglets and struggled to save the remaining ones. Now my pigs farrow around 20 piglets consistently, and the extra piglets are the ones that send me smiling to the bank.

Learning more about feeding has also been incredibly valuable. The discussions, questions, and answers shared among farmers have provided exactly the kind of guidance we need. After attending many seminars in the past, I, Mercy Wangeci, am committed to introducing De Heus in Muranga County to the farmers who come to buy breeding gilts from my farm. They will go home with De Heus, because what I feed is what they will feed at their homes.

Water access is equally important. By checking the drink lines to ensure water is always flowing, I help the birds stay healthy. Weekly weighing allows me to monitor growth, and using tools like the poultry coach app helps benchmark body weight against age.

With the right feed at the right age and at the right time, as guided by De Heus, I, Mercy Wangeci, have been able to create an efficiently growing broiler flock that delivers strong results and high revenues.
